Every year millions of us try to hide signs of aging by improving and preventing the sagging skin, fine lines, wrinkles, and folds that appear on our faces, however, our true age may be seen the most when we look at our hands. The backs of our hands receive more sun exposure than other parts of our body, which causes the skin to age more rapidly; resulting in volume loss, reduced elasticity, thinning skin, pronounced visible veins and tendons, and a thin, emaciated, or malnourished appearance. Hand rejuvenation with Restylane Lyft offers immediate, minimally invasive, no-downtime improvement in volume loss, wrinkles, and the appearance of unsightly veins and tendons.
The first and only hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA-approved to rejuvenate the hands, Restylane Lyft uses HA (a naturally occurring substance in your skin) to volumize and add fullness to the treatment area. With a larger particle size than other Restylane products, Lyft is specially engineered for lifting and contouring treatments. Restylane Lyft results typically last 12 months, so hand rejuvenation with HA fillers is typically a twice-yearly treatment.
Treating signs of aging isn’t just for the face. Today, procedures can address other parts of the body including, crepey skin on the chest and arms, sagging skin around the knees and stomach, discoloration of the chest, the fullness of the chin and neck, and lost volume in our hands. Dr. Gwyn King, a board-certified Dermatologist at Dayton Skin Care, performs the hand rejuvenation treatment. She injects dermal fillers into the back of her patient’s hands, resulting in a plumper, smoother, and more youthful appearance.
How does it work?
Step 1
Numbing cream may be applied to the hands upon request.
Step 2
Both hands washed with Hibiclens and alcohol.
Step 3
The hollow spaces around the tendons and larger veins are injected with Restylane Lyft. The injection is performed by lifting the skin and injecting the filler under the skin, taking great care to avoid veins and tendons.
Step 4
Small boluses of filler are injected between the knuckles and wrist area. These small balls of Lyft are massaged to ensure even distribution throughout the area.
Step 5
The treatment is assessed to ensure appropriate appearance and asymmetry of the hands without compromise to hand function. Any touch-ups with filler can be performed at this time followed by massaging with the gel.
Step 6
Admire and enjoy!
Due to the large number of veins and tendons running through the hands, it is essential that hand rejuvenation procedures are performed by an experienced, skilled professional like Dr. King who understands the anatomical structure and tissue layers to avoid potential compilations.
How long do hand rejuvenation improvements last?
On average, hand rejuvenation with fillers should last 12 months. Patients who diet and exercise regularly may experience greater volume loss and more rapid aging in the hands and therefore may require more frequent touch-ups and maintenance treatments.
How does Dr.King do it differently?
In addition to Restylane Lyft, Dr. King often uses a combination approach to get the desired results. She suggests the IPL (Intense Pulse Light) Laser or Chemical peel to eliminate brown spots and discoloration.
Are there any risks involved with hand fillers?

Is hand rejuvenation painful?
Patients may experience a stinging sensation or mild discomfort during the procedure. Dr. King say that Restylane Lyft contains Lidocaine as it is injected numbing does occur.
What is the downtime for hand rejuvenation?
There is minimal downtime with a hand rejuvenation procedure. According to Dr.King, this procedure is quick enough that it can be performed during your lunch break! Although you may experience redness, swelling, and/or tenderness in the area for up to 2 weeks, patients can return to their everyday activities immediately after treatment.
