Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology
Dr. Kimberly Shao, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist at Dayton Skin Care. She completed the Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology (Mohs) fellowship in 2023 and is now seeing surgery patients at Dayton Skin Care in Dayton, OH. She graduated with honors, earning a bachelor’s degree in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology from the University of Delaware with a 4.0 GPA. She went to medical school at the University of Pennsylvania where she did an additional research year in Mohs. She then completed her internship in Denver, Colorado at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center. Afterward, she trained for 3 years at the University of Connecticut in general dermatology, pediatric dermatology, dermatopathology, and dermatologic/cosmetic surgery. She has been mentored by leaders in dermoscopy to recognize skin cancers during skin examinations and biologic medications to treat conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.
Dr. Shao has published multiple research articles in our specialty’s top journals. She has presented both nationally and internationally at esteemed dermatology conferences. Dr. Shao has a special interest in patient education and dispelling skincare myths. She has a social media account on Instagram: @dr.skinshao which has grown to over 7,000 followers in less than 2 years and is dedicated to educating the public on science-backed skincare recommendations. Additionally, Dr. Shao volunteers her time to mentor students who are interested in applying to medical school/dermatology residency.
When she is not taking care of patients, you can find her hiking, skiing, at yoga, or getting ice cream with her partner Lawrence. Dr. Shao is excited to serve the patients of Dayton Skin Care with all their skincare needs!
