***If you notice significant changes or growth in region of your biopsy prior to the time of your surgery, please notify our office***

  1. Our goal is to deliver outstanding healthcare and achieve the best possible outcome; this may involve an all day stay at our office. Eat breakfast and bring a sack lunch and snacks. We do have a selection of magazines and newspapers but please feel free to bring a book or other quiet ways to pass your time.
  2. Take your physician prescribed medications the morning of the surgery. Advise your physician of any over the counter medications that you take regularly.
  3. If you smoke tobacco, please stop for 2 days before and 7 days after surgery. Use of tobacco products during the post-operative period will cause poor wound healing including but not limited to death of tissue and prolonged healing with possible deformity.
  4. If you consume alcoholic beverages, please stop 14 days before and 2 days after surgery. This will help prevent complications of bleeding.
  5. We recommend a shower the evening or morning before surgery and freshly laundered clothes to help reduce the chance for getting infections. If you are having surgery on the head or neck please wear a shirt or blouse that buttons up the front.
  6. A container for contact lenses or dentures should be brought if the surgical site is around your eyes or mouth.
  7. Please realize that you will probably be in our office for an extended period of time on your surgery day. For this reason, please bring your medications with you on the morning of your surgery so that you may take them throughout the day.
  8. On the day of surgery, you must be accompanied by a family member or friend. We ask that you limit it to two people due to the limited space in our waiting room. Medicated patients will not be allowed to drive themselves home. All patients must be escorted when leaving our office after surgery. If we need to call for your ride after the surgery, bring the name and phone number with you and give that information to our receptionist.
  9. The office plays internet radio throughout the day. For your individualized and personalized enjoyment, you may consider bringing your own MP3 player and headphones. This can also be a useful sound distraction during surgery.
  10. Please call our office if you get sick between now and the time of your surgery.
  11. Remember to start antibiotics on time if you were instructed to do so.
  12. If you are allergic to any medications or have ANY sensitivity, please notify us immediately.
  13. There will be a bulky pressure bandage in place for 24-72 hours after the surgery. These pressure bandages may obscure your vision. This is another reason you must have a driver. Please consider this when scheduling your surgery.
  14. For the first 48-72 hours activity will be limited. Restrictions include avoidance of strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and bending over (if your surgery is on the head or neck).
  15. It is also recommended that you do not plan to swim or exercise after surgery until you are told it is okay by the surgeon.
  16. For the first 24 hours it is recommended that you have a friend or family member stay with you overnight.
  17. Please call our office if you have any questions
