It’s a new season, so it’s time to talk about Spring Skincare with Dayton Skin! Spring is a time of renewal, and after months of alternating between hot and dry indoor air and the wash cold outside your skin is ready for a change. Your skincare needs to change every time the weather or season changes, so we have put together some tips on how to achieve your most glowing, radiant, and healthy skin this spring.
5 Tips for Your Skin This Spring
- Exfoliate
The winter can leave skin feeling dry, flaky, and dull. You’ll want to shed off those layers of dead skin before spring gets here, and the best way is to exfoliate. Exfoliating removes the dead surface skin cells to reveal fresher layers of skin. Not only do you get healthier and clearer skin, but your skin is also able to absorb product more effectively helping you to achieve that flawless spring look.
You can use an exfoliating body scrub in the shower or bath 2-3 times during the week focusing on those areas that are more prone to rough patches such as your arms, elbows, hands, feet, and back. It is important to remember that most body scrubs are too rough to use on your face, so use a gentle product designed specifically to exfoliate your face and always remember to follow-up with a moisturizer after exfoliating.
- Lighten up
While the winter required slathering on thick, heavy products and moisturizers from head to toe, the same products can leave a greasy layer and clogged pores on your skin as the days grow warmer. As part of your spring skincare routine, choose light products to keep your skin healthy and hydrated without weighing you down. Look for products that contain hydrating ingredients which will help to add a natural glow to your complexion.
- Protect your skin
As the warmer temperatures of spring arrive, you’ll likely find yourself spending more time outside to enjoy the weather. While we should always protect our skin with a minimum of SPF 15 regardless of weather or season, spring is definitely the time to boost up our sun protection game. Make sure your sunscreen protects against both UV-A and UV-B rays, and if you are going to be outside longer use stronger protection such as SPF 30 or SPF 50 to reduce your risk of sun damage. Remember to stay hydrated, wear loose clothing as well as hats and sunglasses, and to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours if you are outdoors.
- Clean out your makeup
Spring cleaning includes your makeup bag! Go through your makeup collection and skincare products and check for expirations dates. These should be followed to the T, so if you don’t know how long you’ve had a product or it is past the date, toss it out. While it may be tempting to keep products you love, the infection is not worth it. Anything applied to lips or eyes should be thrown away after a year.
Take time to clean your brushes thoroughly at least once a week and clean your makeup bag once a month. If you can’t throw your bag in the laundry, use an anti-bacterial cleanser on the fabric.
- Eye creams and retinol
With the sun more prominent during the spring, people are likely to spend a good deal of time squinting in the bright outdoors. To help combat those fine lines and wrinkles, find an eye cream or retinol with a high concentration of antioxidants to ward off the effects of UV rays and plump away those fine lines and wrinkles. Because retinol creams can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, apply it at night to avoid irritation.
